Records

Record collecting is a great passion of mine and I like nothing better than to find an original pressing of a rarity in a dirty, cluttered shop at the bottom of an unorganized dusty file-less system. Unfortunately though the days of the record collector are numbered because of the internet and ebay. Wrong. The record collector now has a multiple number of avenues to find that gem that they’ve sought after for so many years. Whether you collect 12inch dance signals, old skool hip-hop, or 60s classics you should be inundated with resources, where as in my day you used to have to hope Record Collector Magazine had what you wanted, you could spend years looking for an LP and never find it.

I would just like to touch quickly on sound quality. There has been an argument for years about the difference in quality between CDs and Vinyl. The sound quality of analogue (vinyl) is, in my honest opinion, superior to digital media such as CDs and MP3s, which suffer degradation from digital to audio sample rate conversion, basically meaning that the wave forms become more square or harsh. Where as the only degradation you get from vinyl is warmth created by a small amount of distortion. I still enjoy collecting vinyl even tho it rarely gets played, but believe you me, I’ve got some classics.
